Bulldogs Set to Kick Off Regular Season
After a successful set of pre-season games, in which the Bulldogs went 2-0 and posted 26 runs in only 11 innings, the team is now set to start their regular season schedule. Their season begins with a three game home stand Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, as the teams hosts Ocoee, Crystal River and East Ridge, respectively. Game for all games this week are 4:00 (JV) and 7:00 (Varsity) and will be played at the Fred Stover Sports Complex.
Bulldogs Go 2-0 in Pre-Season Tournament
The Bulldogs wrapped up their pre-season schedule on Saturday with a 11-3 rout of Real Life Christian Academy, following a 15-5 drumming of Umatilla High School the previous Thursday.
Senior Nick Grice set the tone on the mound early for the Bulldogs, striking out the side in the first inning on only 11 pitches. He went 2.2 innings, earning the win and finished with seven strikeouts, while not allowing a hit and only allowing one hitter to reach base. Tavares was paced offensively by seniors, Cameron Isbill and Paxton Ellison, who each had a double and 3 RBI. Senior Ariel Martinez also added a double 2 RBI . All together the Bulldogs rattled off eight hits on the evening, collecting 10 RBI in the process.
Seniors Tyler Smith and Johnny Gordon provided the offensive fireworks Saturday, with Smith going 3-4 with 5 RBI and finishing a home run shy of the cycle. Gordon's solo home run to deep left field, in the top of the fifth, sealed the deal for the Bulldogs, as they cruised to an eight run victory. Senior Paxton Ellison recorded the win on the mound going three innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two Real Life batters.
All together the Bulldogs hit .365 on the week with 8 extra-base hits.
